Jiu Jitsu: I started training in Jiu Jitsu because I was bored with Tae Kwon Do. They practiced Jiu Jitsu in the same gym. After 1 class of Jiu Jitsu I was completely hooked. Solving puzzles while being physically active was the ultimate combo for me.
Mobility: As a long time dancer, yoga was a natural progression for me as a way to balance my body. My discovery of the different styles of yoga and mobility continues to excite me and is a lifelong pursuit.
I truly love teaching. I love both of the disciplines that I work with and they are special in that they need to be handed from body to body. If we could be successful learning these arts just off a video there would be no gyms. But the truth is, these are visceral experiences; your body is learning- not just your brain. We keep the art of it alive by passing it from teacher to student.
Someone who is excited! Truly if you have a thirst for something everything else can be overcome. Also someone who is open to the process of learning. You may not understand every step of it, but you are open to the possibility of not knowing, and having a new experience.
My mom. She had a disability from the time I was born. Being an adult now and looking back I truly have to admire how she pushed through her own limitations to raise kids. It was an incredibly selfless act. Because of her I never take my body and the things it does for granted.
I am a brown belt in BJJ. I also just achieved my 500 hour Yoga teacher training certification which I am very proud of! I am a NASM certified Personal Trainer, as well as a Corrective Exercise specialist. I am a certified Functional Range Conditioning instructor, and I hold manual certifications in lymphatic massage as well as cranial support for concussion recovery.
I’ve been practicing Jiujitsu off and on since 2002. I took a long 8 year break to pursue a career as a professional dancer, and then when I retired from Dance I started again in 2013. I’ve been coaching Jiujitsu off and on since 2018.
I have been practicing Yoga for 22 years and teaching for 13 years.
